A fragrance born on the sand. And in memory.
Almadira is not a word found in the dictionary. It is a Romagna idiom meaning “what the sea leaves on the beach”: sticks, sand, shells, smells. And, above all, time. It is a name that does not describe, but evokes. Like a memory that you cannot explain, but still feel inside you.
Almadira was born on a beach, when the sea recedes and leaves its traces on the sand. It was born from a simple idea. Or rather, from the rediscovery of a memory. A fragrance that smells of truth. Of the Riviera. Of memory. Not a supermarket fragrance.
The Rediscovered Formula. Rimini, 1961
We found it among the pages of an old notebook, hidden inside a sand-colored hard suitcase. A forgotten suitcase, inherited, perhaps passed from hand to hand. It was written in pen on yellow paper. Among the pages were some handwritten notes, scattered jottings, memories, and some formulas with notes on perfumes, all linked to the Riviera. We chose one note in particular. Just a few words, sparse, essential:
“Fresh and floral notes, salt on the skin. Like the sunset that envelops you after a day on the Riviera. Don't change anything. A slow evening on the Riviera. Keep the formula as it is.”
No signature. A place and a date: Rimini, 1961. Just a precise impression: that of something that should not be touched, but only cherished. We did not interpret it. We listened to it. We let it speak. For years we tried to reproduce the scents of those sensations, as one does with things that cannot be forgotten, a search through time and the soul. Like master perfumers, we sought to recreate that original accord, that sensation: a subtle balance of sea, wind, dry wood, and Mediterranean scrub. We studied those notes and finally turned them into a fragrance thanks to expert Italian perfumers.
Now, that rediscovered essence is finally ready. And it lives in a single form, in a single size. In a 30 ml dark glass bottle, just as we found it in that suitcase. We removed the grooves, yes. But its soul remains intact. We could have used transparent glass because “transparency” is a concept that appeals to marketing. But we didn't feel like it and tried to stay as faithful as possible to what we found, adding a wooden cap like the wood left by the almadira on the beach.
It is Almadira's first fragrance. What remains.
